Friends, first I’d like to say thank you for all of your support and generosity over the past almost-ten years. I can’t believe it’s been that long, but here we are! I have some really exciting news that I wanted to share with you today, since it’s Giving Tuesday.
For most of 2017 and part of 2018, I worked with some fantastic folks at Baltimore Neighborhoods, Inc., Maryland’s only statewide Fair Housing and Tenant Advocacy organization. In July of this year, we were given the sad news that BNI was going to close. Thanks to a group of colleagues and friends here in Baltimore, including the ACLU of Maryland, the Community Development Network, the Maryland Consumer Rights Coalition, and others, we were able to come together to create a brand-new organization: The Fair Housing Action Center of Maryland.
This new organization has an amazing transitional board, and will be seeking additional board members as we move forward. Right now, I encourage you to visit the website, and look at our programming and staff/board — and I also encourage you to support this organization with a generous financial contribution. In the coming months, we will have the capacity to really tackle many of our state’s troublesome housing issues, particularly in the Baltimore Metro region. Your generous support will go towards increasing that capacity, and strengthening the great work that’s already begun.
We need people like you to step up and help us make Baltimore a safer, stronger city. To support our advocacy efforts, and our direct assistance to residents and communities that are struggling with systemic housing discrimination and substandard rentals, please make a contribution today. If you have any questions or concerns, please don’t hesitate to reach out! My email address will change, as of December 20th to: carol AT fairhousingmd dot org, and the HPW email address will no longer work.
I appreciate the encouragement, critiques, financial contributions, and other support you have given over the years, and I hope moving forward, you continue to be an important part of this work. Your input has been invaluable, and I look forward to doing so much more in the coming months.
